This section presents a sampling of an exhibit: “The Architecture of Construction” presented by the American Architecture Foundation at the American Institute of Architects Headquarters Gallery January (2008). The photographs explore the transient architecture of construction sites and offer a window into a vibrant world of architectural forms that are temporary by-products of the processes of demolition and construction. These forms, shaped by chance, are undervalued contributors to the qualities of our cityscape. They are created and transformed in a place and time where pragmatism is unfettered and aesthetic judgment is mostly suspended in the pursuit of building an architect’s vision, a vision that is not always as good as what happens in the making.
