The sidewalks that support our pedestrian movements are mostly a pragmatic endeavor. A vast network of concrete, stone and brick that collects fallen leaves snow and trash is also a canvas for the calligraphy of utility markings that offer guidance for what lies bellow. The photographs in this series seek to capture the qualities of this horizontal accidental architecture in the neighborhoods of Glover Park, Woodley Park, Cathedral Heights, Cleveland Park, Tenleytown and Friendship Heights in Washington DC.
